LOOKING BACK AS WE MOVE FORWARD

While playing golf last May I was struck by the beauty of a hole I had just completed.  I posted the picture on Facebook with the comment, “Some say you should never look back, but if you don’t you might miss a nice view.”  I think the same thing can be said as we look to 2018.  Many will create “resolutions” they will seek to keep over the next year.  At the same time it is important that we look back and consider what we learned in 2017.

MY WISH FOR YOU

My son, his wife Laura, the grandkids, Grace, Luke and Scarlet and the family dog, Tucker are now back in northern New Jersey after spending a few days with us. We also got to see them again on Christmas Day along with Laura’s family .  My brother from Pittsburgh is traveling to Upper Wisconsin to visit his in-laws, and the brother in Chicago is enjoying having all four of his children home together for an extended period of time.

The Saturday evening before Christmas we had the opportunity to gather with my wife’s family for dinner.

SAVOR THE SEASON

Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire.  If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something.  For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.  During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations.  Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge.  Because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes.  They will teach you valuable lessons.

SOME ENCOURAGING WORDS

It finally feels like winter and the holiday seasons are here.  The cold north winds have dropped the temperature, the forecast includes the word, “snow”, and the hustle and bustle associated with the holidays has begun.  For many, the next few weeks will be a whirlwind of activity that will include shopping, family get-togethers, travel, decorating, cooking, work functions, end-of-year goal attainment, and the list goes on and on!  When you think about it, you come to the realization that what should be the happiest time of the year can also be the most stressful.

MAKING AN IMPACT

Most people do not recognize the names Anthony Senerchia and Pete Frates.  These two men live hundreds of miles away from each other, but both served as inspirations for the ALS Bucket Challenge that raised over $200 million dollars to support research for a cure to this dreadful disease.  Anthony died last week, but like Pete’s it is a life well-lived, a life that had an impact. It made me think, what impact do each of us make on the world in which we live?
