WHAT IF????????

What if leadership wasn’t about you?  What if leadership was about creating the future?  What if leadership was about empowering others to lead or taking the role of follower?  What if leadership is about serving others?  What if leadership was all of this and more?  Leadership in the 21st century comes with high expectations.  Some might say, “I can’t be all things to all people!”  True!  But you can strive to understand those whom you serve and commit yourself to providing them with exemplary leadership.

WHAT’S YOUR STORY?

As we approach the Super Bowl and the Acting/Music Awards Season (Golden Globes, Grammies, Oscars, etc.), I’ve enjoyed watching individuals, companies and organizations utilize “Storytelling” as a means of communicating their message as it relates to these events.  Jon Westenberg an author and blogger says, “I think storytelling is is the greatest technology that humans have ever created. Storytelling is the basis for almost everything in our society, and the way we interact, build, communicate, live and dream all derives from it.

ACCOUNTABILITY: IT’S A GOOD THING

Upon waking Saturday morning, I pursued my common ritual of making coffee and grabbing the morning paper.  Opening it I was greeted with the headline, “US Government Shutdown Begins”.  During the day I read some on-line posts, and listened to various news commentators representing both the left and right perspectives. Saturday evening I had the opportunity to engage in a lively discussion at a local gathering spot.  It would seem that everyone wants to hold someone else accountable for this dysfunctional event.

ANSWERING THE CALL

Let’s begin this week’s thought with a movie and a book.  Both are fiction, but they both help us to understand what can happen when we answer a calling.  Do you recall the name Ray Kinsella?  No?  Let me give you a hint, he heard a voice call out to him in the fields of Iowa.  Yes, now you remember.  In the movie, “Field of Dreams” Ray hears a voice calling to him, “If you build it, he will come!”

BECAUSE I SAID I WOULD

I hope the first week of the new year was a good one for you and that it sets the tone for the year to come. Hopefully you had a chance to reflect and let your learnings and experiences guide you as you set the course and embarked on this new journey we call 2018. I hope it’s your best year ever.

This week’s post will be a little bit more interactive. You will need a piece of paper and a pen or pencil to continue.
