ARE YOU A DYNAMIC LEARNER?

“The illiterate of the 21st Century
will not be those who cannot read and write,
but rather those who cannot learn,
unlearn and relearn” – A. Toffler

It’s been almost two years since I retired.  As I reflect on what has been accomplished, I’ve come to the realization that much of it is a result of a commitment to the idea of “continuous improvement”.  Simply put, I can be a better person tomorrow that I am today if I make a commitment to Never Stop Learning.

BE THE GLUE

Trust is the glue of life.
It’s the most essential ingredient
in effective communication.
It’s the foundational principle
that holds all relationships

– Steven Covey
A few years ago, I remember talking with a friend who shared a comment made by her son as the family celebrated the holidays.  He simply said, “Mom, you are the glue that holds this family together.”   What a wonderful sentiment. He clearly saw something in his mother that spoke to her ability to foster a sense of family cohesion.

OPENING DOORS

This week’s newsletter was inspired by Michelle, my leadership buddy at Church, and the words of Ian Treasurer, a five-year old preschooler from Asheville, NC.  Thank-you!

Leadership has become an industry!  Katie Gibson, writing in the Harvard Kennedy School’s Journal suggests, “Over the past four decades, a booming ‘leadership industry’ in the U.S. has generated billions of dollars in revenue related to leadership workshops, seminars, books, conferences and other materials and events focused on leadership development. But this hyper-focus on leadership may be detrimental instead of helpful.”

UNCOMMON VALOR

The U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, also known as the Iwo Jima Memorial, is based on the iconic photograph taken by Associated Press photographer Jos Rosenthald.  The monument is dedicated to every Marine who has died in combat since Nov. 10, 1775.  The words, “Uncommon Valor Was a Common Trait” is inscribed at the base of the statue

This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day; a day we honor those who gave their lives to protect our way of life.  Luke Scot is a former Major League Baseball player.

A WEDNESDAY THOUGHT

The Thought

“Each new day is a blank page in the diary of your life. The secret of success is in turning that diary into the best story you possibly can.” – Douglas Pagals

The Challenge

What will you write in your diary tonight?  It’s your choice.  Will you leave the world a little better than it was yesterday?  Will your loved ones, friends, and colleagues think of you with gratitude?  Will your entry inspire you to live each day as you did today?
