IS THE CANARY STILL SINGING???

“Don’t Work Too Hard.
Try to Maintain Balance.
Don’t Make Work Your Whole Life”
  •                                                 – Bronnie Ware

  • This past Saturday was a great day.  I woke up early, made some coffee, read the paper, made breakfast for my wife (before she left for work), re-read the paper, had another coffee, made a list of things to get done, and then delighted in crossing them off as they were completed.  I drove by my former office and saw two cars I recognized in the lot.

IT’S ABOUT SERVING OTHERS

“FRUSTRATION ALWAYS
COMES BEFORE THE ACHIEVEMENT”

It’s here!  The holiday season has arrived!  Can’t you feel it all around you?  The traffic is heavier, finding a parking spot can become next to impossible, the on-line order you want cannot be found in the size you need, everyone wants to “get together” once more before the holidays, and the project you were assigned a week ago now needs to be completed before the new year.  And let’s not forget, the holiday concerts that must be attended, the parties (those you want to attend, and those to which you feel obligated), the last minute shopping, and then the icing on the cake, the call from VISA questioning the $1454.00 purchase made at some obscure on-line store in Australia; you’ve been hacked!

HOW’S YOUR AGILITY?

“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. ”

  – Alvin Toffler

Elizabeth Quinn an exercise physiologist and sports medicine writer characterizes “Agility” as an ability that permits you to respond to what is going on around you, take in information, and in a controlled manner, translate it into body positioning that will place you in the right position to take the next action effectively.  No less is true for organizations.

A THANKSGIVING THOUGHT

Good Morning!  I thought you might enjoy the following Thanksgiving story that appeared many years ago in Readers’ Digest:

When Mrs. Klein told her first graders to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful, she wondered what these children, who lived in a deteriorating neighborhood, actually had to be thankful for.  She knew that most of the class would draw pictures of turkeys or of bountifully laden Thanksgiving tables, because that was what they believed was expected of them.

LEADERSHIP FOR THE FUTURE: ARE YOU READY?

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives,

nor the most intelligent.

It is the one that is the most adaptable to change!”

                                                                                                          –  Charles Darwin

When I graduated from college (1973) I entered a world where change was almost predictable.  If I had questions about the future, I went to the source of all that was true and accurate, Harry (my father), who advised me, “ Live your faith, work hard, be adaptable, and always put others first; everything else will take care of itself.”
